I have recently graduated Hampton University, with honors, with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Print Journalism and a minor in Graphic Design.
The renowned Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton has given me a sound footing in the mass multimedia field. I was able to maintain my Deans List standing as a member of Hampton's Honor College, for all semesters while being involved in a challenging course of study. A few of the applicable courses I have taken have been Adobe InDesign and Illustrator, and Graphic Design, as well as Adobe Flash, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop. I have also taken Advance News Editing and Reporting. I am also well versed in the social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. Having initiated a career in school journalism, while at my high school, Elizabeth Seton in Maryland as the graphics editor, I continued to hone my skills at the Hampton Script as first a member of the Arts and Entertainment Reporting Staff, and then as the Visual Editor.
Currently, I am consulting for Commando Police and Detective Services as their in-house Graphic Designer, working at DC Life Magazine as their Lead Graphic Designer and Managing Editor, while also volunteering at the Newseum in their Volunteer Services department. During my years at Hampton University I participated in a semester stay of a newly developed (non-pay) intern position with the Daily Press Newspaper in Newport News, VA. Due to my focused efforts at the Daily Press, a paid-intern position was proposed and accepted mid- semester during spring of 2011. That, when taken into consideration that I was carrying eighteen credits, attending six classes per week, and had been employed for four years as a Customer Sales Associate with Men's Wearhouse (twenty hours per week), mandated that I adhere to a strict time management system while effectively multi-tasking these various duties.
I bring to the position I am applying for a proven drive to succeed. Though, a recent college graduate, my hunger to learn continues. In my youth, I bring the experience of my accomplishments and the energy and imagination to see the capabilities for success in what ever task is before me. I look forward to discussing opportunities whereby I may serve as a positive addition to your company/publication.
